(Some Texas documents reflect Brit Bailey was involved in counterfeiting before he came to Texas. The James B. Bailey that was indicted in Alabama was about 20 years younger than Brit. This James B. Bailey was cousins to Brittain and Nancy Bailey of Alabama and probably the son of Brit. It is possible Brit was part of this counterfeiting ring before he came to Texas and may have had something to do with him coming. There is no concrete proof this counterfeiter, James B. Bailey is Brit’s son. Brittain Bailey and his cousin, James B. Bailey, were both indicted for passing counterfeit bank notes. In the confession of James B. Bailey is a mention of James B. Bailey Sr. passing counterfeit also. This is probably Brit. There is proof that Brittain and Nancy Bailey did come to Texas and were in Brazoria County. They had one son, John Aursban, when they came to Texas. One daughter, Eliza, was born in Texas in 1832. Brittain died about 1837. Nancy was pregnant with their third child, Helen, when she returned to Alabama in 1838.)
